Rise Fund

Procedures
  1. Individuals requesting a scholarship from the Rise Fund must have met with WERC staff and have a completed an initial intake on file.
  2. They will next meet with two WERC Staff members to:
    • Confirm eligibility as a qualified displaced homemaker who resides in the WERC service delivery area;
    • Answer any questions that may need further clarification;
    • Describe what the scholarship will be used for and the amount requested;
    • Assess commitment of applicant;
    • Assess the likelihood that the scholarship will lead to employment;
    • Assess current employment opportunities linked to use of funds;
    • Discuss and advise applicant if the use of the funds clearly do not meet the intent of the scholarship;
    • Discuss any other options that either may be available or have been pursued for funding;
    • Complete an application for scholarship clearly explaining that a further review with a WERC Board of Trustees committee will make the final determination;
    • Insure that ALL information is accurately recorded;
    • Record witnessed signature that the applicant understands the terms of the award (confirming its purpose; understanding that the check will not be issued to them, but will be issued to the agency/institution/business that will be providing the associated service/class/product; the expectation that they will maintain contact with the Center to use the support to help them achieve their goals).
  3. III Executive Director will forward the application to the review committee of the WERC Board (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary). The committee will make a final decision to approve or reject the application and forward that decision to Executive Director.
  4. Executive Director will notify applicant in writing of the committee’s decision.
  5. WERC will issue a check to the appropriate agency or business that is providing the product/class/service needed by the recipient.
  6. WERC staff will maintain contact and provide follow-up services and support for one year.
